NO 10 SUPPORTS BRITISH TURKEY
The Prime Minister’s wife Sarah Brown put her support behind the British turkey industry as she accepted a 5kg Christmas turkey at No 10 and said: “Gordon and I always look forward to a traditional family Christmas with toys, TV and turkey with all the trimmings.
But the real Christmas tradition is giving, and I am pleased that this year the turkeys presented to us by the British Turkey Federation will take pride of place at a party for elderly people who have been victims of the floods in Cumbria. Gordon and I send them, and all the people of Cumbria, our warm best wishes for Christmas”
The turkey was presented on behalf of the British Turkey Federation by William Buchanan, of Gressingham Foods, who will be producing 80,000 turkeys for the Christmas table.
William Buchanan said: “We are delighted to present British Turkey to the Prime Minister’s wife and the flood victims in Cumbria, and of course that turkey is still the No 1 choice for families at Christmas.”
The presentation of a British turkey to Downing Street dates back to the days when Sir Winston Churchill was Prime Minister. Along with the Browns, 20million families will be tucking into turkey this Christmas.
