BRANDED BROCCOLI LAUNCHES NEW YEAR PROMOTION

December 9th, 2009

BrocolliBellaverde is a Broccoli with a registered trade mark, and that’s surely a sign of the times.  They have just advised us of their new year promotional strategy.

The company says “Shape up to the New Year with our nutritious and delicious low calorie recipes, all featuring bellaverde®, the new long stemmed sweet tasting broccoli”.

The company goes on to say “Bellaverde® has all the health boosting superfood qualities of a traditional broccoli, but has been specially developed to have less bitter taste. (One in four of us are genetically pre-disposed to pick up on the bitter taste of broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables and to dislike them.)”

They say their broccoli is special because “The young shoots are hand picked after just 10 days of growth and have a delicate, clean, fresh sweet taste, quite unlike any other broccoli. And because of its vibrant colour, farmers have christened the crop bellaverde®, which is Italian for “beautiful green.”

Bellaverde® is a true pure broccoli, rather than a cross with another vegetable. It is high in Vitamin C and the B vitamin folate as well as being a source of potassium. An 80g serving counts as one of your five daily portions of fruit and veg. Being naturally low in energy, fat and salt, while having a high water and fibre content, makes bellaverde® a healthy and satisfying ingredient, especially for those watching their waistline.

They major on the fast cooking time:  “It takes just three minutes to cook, with nothing being wasted as it all goes into the pan. Plus it’s wonderfully versatile – you can throw it into stir fries, toss it in pasta, serve it on the side with meat or fish, char grill it on the barbecue or blend into a soup. And if you’re not much of a whiz in the kitchen, not to worry, bellaverde® is delicious left raw and served as a crudité with dips or tossed into a salad.”

Bellaverde® is currently available in major Sainsbury’s and Waitrose stores.
