MAKE-AWAYS COULD BE THE NEW TAKE-AWAYS

November 12th, 2009

The Kitchen at London’s Parson’s Green says instead of settling for convenience food or take-aways, consumers can come along and prepare a week’s worth of meals or even a dinner party menu, in under 1½ hours.

The Kitchen says “In these sessions, consumers choose their own dishes; we write the menus, we source the ingredients and they pull it all together”.

“Any cooking ability can attend these sessions. For those with no kitchen confidence, chefs are on hand to advice. And competent home cooks can attend the sessions to appreciate the premium ingredients and diverse menu.

Menu’s change monthly and the organisers say “These sessions are all about having high quality, well priced food in a convenient way. It’s a great experience and most of all fun…and we even do the washing up!”

Price: £30 (Average price for a week’s worth of meals)

The menu is a la carte (http://www.visitthekitchen.com/menu/index.php?cPath=31) – customers just pay for ingredients, there is no additional charge for the experience. Sessions run 3 times a day, 7 days a week.

Dish-Dash
“These are new sessions we started at the beginning of November. Where Make-Aways are all about convenience, helping you prepare the maximum number of dishes in the minimum amount of time, Dish Dash is about learning 1 dish from scratch in under 1 hour. These sessions run every weekday morning. This week we’ve done Stuffed Seabass, Banana & Hazelnut Cake and tomorrow we’re doing homemade sausages. These are very hands on sessions and customers leave with enough food for their evening meal (or tea) for 2.”

“On Sunday mornings we do a special ‘Sunday Roast’ Session where customers can come down to prepare their Sunday roast to take home, ready to pop straight in the oven”.

Price: £25 all ingredients included (Sunday Roast: Price of Application)

Master Classes
“These classes are along the lines of what people understand as a more traditional cookery school. Customers come along, mainly in the evenings, for a 2 hour class to learn a specific skill. We partner with some amazing chefs, restaurants and sommeliers…including:

• Knife Skills with The Japanese Knife Company
• Beginner’s Sushi with Dining’s Restaurants
• Carving Master Class with Maitre D Francois Bertrand (Francois has been no stranger to Michelin-starred establishments, having worked at The Square, Mirabelle, Le Caprice, Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons & Le Gavroche before arriving at Aubergine in Chelsea)
• Michelin Star Canapé Making with Thierry Laborde
• Wine Tasting with Philippe Messy
