EUROPE FUNDED FRUIT CAMPAIGN CONTINUES
Apparently The European Commission has approved another three years of funding for the “Fruitiness enjoy it!” project, which from 2006 to 2009 promoted fruit consumption among children and teenagers in Austria, Germany, Poland, Sweden and the UK.
We are told that for this second phase of Europe’s campaign to help us eat more fruit, the superhero in the green leotard pictured on the left and his trusty team of peaches, nectarines, pears and kiwifruit will be joined by plums … it sounds like a riot and I can’t wait to see the images.
Europe goes on to say “He may have kept us in suspense for a while, but he has not disappointed those who believe that a superhero should never quit in the face of adversity. Having led the fight against childhood obesity from 2006 to 2009, Mr Fruitness, the superhero in the green leotard and the face of the “Fruitness enjoy it!” campaign, has not lost his powers. In fact he is back and stronger than ever after enlisting the help of a new band of allies in the form of plums.”
It is reported that The European Commission has approved the request for continuation until 2012 of the “Fruitness enjoy it!” project, which aims to encourage children and teenagers in Germany, the UK, Austria, Poland and Sweden to increase their consumption of peaches, nectarines, pears, kiwifruit and, in this second phase of the campaign, plums.
The Commission goes on to tell us that over the next three years the lucky superhero of fruit will be revealing some major surprises. Besides having recruited a fifth ally, one which is equally committed to fighting against junk food and promoting correct nutrition, the new “Fruitness enjoy it!” campaign will also champion sport, an essential ingredient in a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
Mr Fruitness’ allies will each put themselves to the test in a different sport, introducing it to children and teenagers and suggesting the most suitable diet to prepare for training or matches. Other novelties will include Mr Fruitness mini playing cards, an entertaining play-while-you-learn tool. Hearts, clubs, spades and diamonds are replaced by pictures of peaches, pears, kiwifruit and plums, providing a fun way of teach youngsters all about the benefits of fresh fruit. This latest freebie will be distributed in major retail chains throughout participating countries from December … I can’t wait.
