BRITS SPEND OVER £18 BILLION A YEAR ON TREATS
According to Carte D’or”s latest research Brits believe that treating ourselves to small indulgences is the best way to get through the recession. A study carried out by Carte D’Or’s new range of frozen desserts found that almost 16 million Brits buy themselves treats more often now than they did before the credit crunch, in a bid to lift spirits and boost morale.
The company says that “While treats are more important to us than ever, savvy Brits are taking a frugal ‘little and often’ approach to spending since the credit crunch kicked in, swapping extravagant luxuries for daily affordable treats. The results show that we’ve swapped romantic gestures, trips and pampering for smaller treats like buying a round or sharing a tub of good quality ice cream at home:
Top list of indulgences year on year:
2008 2009
1. Mini break/ holiday 1. Meal out in a restaurant
2. Eating out at a restaurant 2. Buying a sandwich/ lunch out
3. Buying flowers for a partner 3. Getting a takeaway at the weekend
4. Getting a new hairdo/ pampering 4. Buying a tub of good quality ice cream
