AA ROSETTE FOR NEW KENTISH SEAFOOD RESTAURANT
Despite having only been open since the end of June, Harvey’s Fish Market & Oyster Bar in Ramsgate’s, has been awarded a prized AA Rosette. Harvey’s is the only restaurant in Thanet to hold such an accolade.
“The AA is proud to award Harvey’s Fish Market & Oyster Bar with one AA Rosette for 2009-2010 in recognition of its demonstration of culinary excellence”, said Peter Sturdey, Hotel & Restaurant Inspector for the AA, adding, “This Rosette rating recognises excellent local restaurants serving food prepared with care, understanding and skill, using good quality ingredients.”
The prestigious award is being seen as a major boost to local tourism. “I’m really excited by the continuing upturn in Ramsgate’s fortunes – the town is certainly ready for a fine dining establishment, cooking to this standard,” said owner Richard Martin, “I believe that the new high speed rail-link and foot passenger ferry service, will give the area even more impetus, that’s why I’ve invested so much time and money in the project.”
Martin, who has spent £250,000 refitting the harbour front seafood restaurant, feels that the early award is vindication for having brought in the Michelin-Starred John Burton-Race as group development chef. Currently starring in ITV1s “Britain’s Best Dishes”, Burton-Race is responsible for training chefs and menu development at Harvey’s and the other three restaurants in the Kent Inns of Distinction family: the Dog Inn at Wingham, Samphire at the Blazing Donkey hotel near Sandwich and Ivy House in Tonbridge.
“To have achieved this accolade in such a short time has made me proud to be associated with their new venture,” said John Burton-Race, “I am delighted that the hard work and diligence applied by Richard and Sherry Martin and their staff has been recognized.”
Harvey’s is also an early front-runner in the Kent Restaurant Awards in the ‘Best Seafood’ category, for which local foodies can vote for their favourite dining establishments online via www.KentRestaurantAwards.co.uk
