STEAK SALES UP IN M & S

October 23rd, 2009

M & S reports that its steaks sales are at an all time high and are defying the trend for economising during the credit crunch. M&S rump and sirloin steak are both 40% up on last year, while the retailer’s fillet steak is a mega 70% up on last year.

M & S SteaksTo cater for this new demand for steaks M&S is introducing a grand T-bone (pictured) and Club (Cowboy) steaks to its range. T bone steak is a cross section of sirloin and fillet left on the bone- with fillet on one side of the T-bone and sirloin on the other, while the Club is a bone-in rib-eye steak from the forequarter.

Marks & Spencer says it  is the destination shop when it comes to steak – with the largest range on the high street which includes, sirloin, rib eye, rump, fillet, chateaubriand and features Aberdeen Angus, Organic, Dry Aged and Scottish steaks

Andrew Ritchie, M&S Product Development Manager for Meat, comments; “Steak is the one food that seems to be recession proof. Steak and chips is the ultimate in comfort food and with more people dining in at home – it’s the perfect choice.

We’ve also brought out a selection of classic steak sauces – Diane (£1.99 serves 2), Peppercorn (£1.99 serves 2) and Béarnaise (49p serves 1) – giving customers more time to linger over their supper and savour each mouthful”.

All Marks & Spencer fresh beef is sourced in the UK. The beef for its steaks is matured for a minimum of 21 days to ensure they are tender. And the majority of M&S steaks are “skin wrapped” which keeps the fresh and flavourful.

Marks & Spencer’s new steak range will be available at selected stores nationwide from Thursday 15th October. Both T-bone and Club steak are priced at £19.99 kg (average pack price is £8.50 for T-bone and £6 for Club).
