HOMER SIMPSON BECOMES BRITAIN’S NEW HEALTH GURU

October 6th, 2009

As part of the UK Goverment’s Change4Life campaign the DOH (Department Of Health) is to spend nearly £1m on encouraging Simpson’s viewers to eat more healthily.

We’re told that as a prelude to each programme, characters who emulate Homer and his family are seen tucking into the usual junk food we’ve come to associate with the Homer boys … these foods then magically transform themselves into healthy foods.

The plan is that this campaign will add emphasis to the importance of eating a balanced diet.  The UK public health minister Gillian Merron has said that the DOH is looking at all innovative ways of changing Britain’s eating habits.

In a statement she said “The Simpsons are a much-loved, close-knit family facing some of the everyday challenges that modern day families go through,” she said in a statement.  “Whilst they certainly make some questionable choices about how they go about things, they provide a popular and engaging way to get the message to real-life families about simple ways of improving their diet and activity for a healthier lifestyle.”
