MARBRAN IN DERBYSHIRE LAUNCHES NEW BAKED CRISPS

September 4th, 2009

The crunchy oven-baked wheat and potato snack, which has almost four times less fat than traditional fried potato crisps, now also comes in new, packaging.

Designed to appeal to crisp lovers with an appetite for something special, CRIPS have been voted number one in independent tests…beating 5 leading-brand snacks on taste, texture and appearance.

Now the range has been spiced up with new flavours and a brand new look. CRIPS are available in:

• Natural Sea Salt
• Sea Salt & Cracked Black Pepper
• Thai Sweet Chilli
• Mature Cheddar Cheese & Spring Onion
• Sea Salt & Balsamic Vinegar.

“CRIPS really appeal to people looking to indulge in a gourmet snack and who don’t want to sacrifice the crunch, taste and eating experience of potato crisps,” said Gareth Smith, director of Derbyshire company Marbran, which produces CRIPS.

“They have no GM ingredients, no monosodium glutamate, are trans fat free, have no artificial colours or preservatives, contain heaps of natural flavour, and are suitable for vegetarians.”

CRIPS were devised by Gareth’s dad, global foodie Brian Smith, who has been at the forefront of food innovation since setting up Booth Smith Food Technology in 1970. His worldwide business travels helped him keep a close eye on trends in the food sector…and in 2005 he shared his ideas for a healthier, oven-baked crisp with his son Gareth, an entrepreneur in the hospitality trade and co owner of The Orange Tree group of pubs.

Putting together a team of close friends and technical experts, the partnership perfected the idea for a totally new-style snack that was low in fat but high in taste…and launched CRIPS in 2007.

As well as coming top in independently conducted blind taste tests, CRIPS also scooped an innovation award from The Food & Drink Forum and an Enterprise Award from the Home-Grown Cereals Authority.

The five new flavours of CRIPS are being launched to satisfy the increasing demand for healthier, gourmet crisps.

“We are thrilled to have introduced our new range. We believe they bring something new to the table when it comes to guilt-free snacking,” added Gareth. “Once people try CRIPS they are immediately seduced, and we expect to build on the positive reaction we’ve received from retailers, wholesalers, distributors, consumers and the media so far.”

Crips are sold in over 500 independent bars, cafes, delicatessens and farm shops across the UK . Visit www.cripsnacks.com for a full list of stockists.
