BELGO MOULES & FRITES RESTAURANTS ARE RUNNING AN OKTOBERFEST MENU

September 17th, 2009

Moules & Frites establishment Belgo will this year put a Belgian spin on Oktoberfest celebrations, with the introduction of a special food and beer matching menu, showcasing some of Belgium’s most interesting and unusual beers. In preparation, Belgo has been developing a team of in-house beer experts, known as ‘Masters of Beer’, who will be responsible for training the rest of their teams on some of Belgium’s tastiest beers, and ultimately educating the British public about the diversity and quality of beer Belgium has to offer.

Belgo’s extensive staff education reflects the same attention to detail as its carefully sourced beer list; each of its beer experts has gone through rigorous training, not least a session with a Master of Beer Sommelier, putting their knowledge and presentation skills to the ultimate test.

For the duration of October, visitors to Belgo will be offered the opportunity to sample a three-course menu featuring a selection of delicious starters, main courses, and even puddings, all cooked with beer and expertly matched to a specific Belgian beer.

Dishes include Chicken liver terrine with a raspberry beer chutney, Pork belly cooked in Brugs Witbier, in a Rodenbach Grand Cru cream sauce, and Pear poached in cherry beer, with a peach beer sorbet.

The beer matches range from the familiar blond beers, such as Vedett Extra Blond, to more esoteric offerings with lambic beers such as Mort Subite Gueuze, and Trappist ales, including Westmalle Tripel.

For those who can bear to share, Belgo is also offering a “bucket of Belgian beer” from the Steenbrugge Abbey, where Monks have been brewing beer since the 11th Century; a bottle of each of four styles (blonde, wit, brune and tripel selection), served on ice, will cost £10. The menu will be available at Belgo’s four London restaurants, located in Covent Garden, Camden, Clapham, and Kingsway, throughout the month of October.

The three-course meal with matching beers is priced at £27.50 per person (or £19.95 without the accompanying beers). Belgo has four restaurants in the capital.
