WANCHAI FERRY LAUNCHES CHINESE FOOD KITS

August 27th, 2009

Wanchai Ferry claim to bring the art of authentic Chinese cuisine straight to your kitchen with the launch of their innovative new recipe kits.

They say that with the special elements you need to make a perfectly balanced, delicious Chinese dish at home and they position the product as ideal for a special meal or a relaxed evening in.

There are three variants.

Xiang Gu Chicken Recipe Kit (Zhejiang Province) – a blend of Shiitake mushrooms in a black bean and ginger sauce
Kung Pao Chicken Recipe Kit (Szechuan Province) – toasted peanuts in a Szechuan sauce
Bo Luo Pork Recipe Kit (Guangdong Province) – pineapple in a fruity, tangy Cantonese sauce

Each recipe kit includes a spice mix marinade to  tenderise the meat and evenly infuse it with flavour in 10 minutes, Chinese noodles and a  Chinese sauce.

The makers say that each Wanchai Ferry kit also includes a different specialty ingredient to add the perfect finishing touch to your dish, varying from dried shiitake mushrooms with their unique Umami flavour, to crunchy peanuts to toast in your wok or sweet, juicy pineapple chunks. Involved in the preparation at every stage, you are provided with an easy step-by-step guide to cooking each recipe. All you need to add is the fresh meat and vegetables to complete each mouth-watering meal.

We are told the story of Wanchai Ferry dates back to 1977 when a lady named Madame Chong moved to Hong Kong Island from the Chinese mainland. She sold her Chinese dishes from a simple wooden cart, which she pushed along the Wanchai Ferry pier. Although her means were modest, her food was cooked to the highest standards. Her aim of mastering the art of great Chinese cooking led to her becoming a household name throughout China. Today, Wanchai Ferry continues Madame Chong’s work, combining her age-old techniques with delicious, multi-layered flavours. Madame Chong’s original recipes are now available here in the UK for the first time.
