THURSDAY COTTAGE GAINS FOUR GOLD AWARDS

August 25th, 2009

Preserve specialists Thursday Cottage have won an impressive haul of four gold awards in the prestigious Fine Food Digest Great Taste Awards.

The Essex-based company, which is a subsidiary of Wilkin and Sons, was praised for its Organic Victoria Plum Jam, its Rhubarb with Orange Jam, and its Tangerine Marmalade.

Well recognised in the industry for its diabetic range of preserves, it also picked up two gold stars for its Diabetic Blackcurrant Jam.

It is not the first time Thursday Cottage has enjoyed success in the awards. Last year, the company scooped two gold awards – acknowledging the standard of its Organic Damson Jam and its Lime Curd.

The Great Taste Awards are organised by the Guild of Fine Food and this year received well over 4,500 entries. One, two and three star awards are attributed to winning entries after testing by a panel of judges.

Tim Came, managing director of Thursday Cottage, said: “We are thrilled to have picked up gold again in these well regarded awards.

“This is a real endorsement of the great effort that goes into developing our recipes and ensuring they are of the highest quality.

“As a team, we take great pride in our exciting and growing brand and I look forward to us achieving even more awards in the months and years to come.”

The Thursday Cottage range of jams, marmalades, curds and jellies are produced in small open pans, giving them a distinctive ‘home-cooked’ flavour and texture.

The company last year launched a new organic range made with English fruit, and it is most well known for its diabetic range sweetened with fructose.

Having started life in Devon over 40 years ago, the company moved to Essex in 2003. Thursday Cottage now exports over 25% of its production.

In the UK, it supplies such famous names as Selfridges and Chatsworth Farm Shop. Overseas the delicious preserves can be found in La Grande Epicerie in Paris, Castroni (Rome), Seibu (Hong Kong), Zingerman’s (Chicago), and Dean & Deluca (New York) – to name but a few.

NOTES TO EDITORS:

Thursday Cottage is based at Trewlands Farm, Tiptree. The ten strong production team make small batch hand filled preserves, marmalades, curds and jellies. It is particularly well known for its diabetic range sweetened with fructose. All the products are cooked in open pans and the average boil is about eighty jars. The business does not supply the multiples and focuses on the independent sector. Products are exported to about 20 countries.
