IF YOU’RE GOING TO CHILE THEN HERE’S A PLACE TO VISIT

July 3rd, 2009

Here’s an idea for a research trip.   Pioneering premium wine producer Viña Casa Silva has opened extensive new tourist facilities at their estate in Angostura, Colchagua Valley, offering visitors a unique insight into some of Chile’s best loved customs and traditions.

Attached to the family’s winery in one of the original estate buildings, the Viña Casa Silva luxury boutique hotel has been upgraded. In addition to its seven luxury bedrooms, each furnished to an exceptional standard in traditional Chilean country style, the hotel features a top restaurant and wine bar as well as a swimming pool. The hotel provides bicycles for residents to tour the vineyards and offers a comprehensive concierge service organizing tours and tastings in the winery as well as tours and information about other local attractions. Brand new events facilities on site also enable the hotel to cater for weddings and conferences for up to 600 people.

In addition to their winemaking traditions, the Silva family has a heritage of playing traditional Chilean equestrian sports and have had a rodeo stadium and polo ground on the estate amongst the vineyards for decades. All Viña Casa Silva employees and their families are encouraged to use these facilities which have become a central part of local community life. A new equestrian centre and pavilion has just opened next to the existing facilities, to give tourists a unique opportunity to watch and take part in these Chilean traditions.

In addition to the weekly polo matches, ‘Huaso’ rodeo shows featuring Chilean cowboys and traditional Cueca dance demonstrations, visitors can take Show Jumping lessons, horse trek around the Angostura estate or up into the mountains for a picnic. A programme of special events will also take place throughout the year including Show Jumping competitions, Polo and Rodeo tournaments and traditional Asado barbecue parties.

Mario Pablo Silva, managing director of Vina Casa Silva, says: “We’re very proud of our rich Chilean heritage and were the first wine producers to communicate our traditional customs to consumers by illustrating the ‘Huaso’ cowboy and our famous Cueca dance on the labels for our Doña Dominga range. The creation of these tourist facilities is the next step in our mission to enable consumers from overseas to experience the delights of the traditional Chilean way of life.”
