CADBURY HAS GONE FAIRTRADE
According to the Cadbury’s Dairy Milk Blog site today “When Trevor Bond, MD of Cadbury in Britain and Ireland asked Lorraine Cookson, one of the Birmingham campaigners for Fairtrade, how she felt knowing that Cadbury Dairy Milk was officially Fairtrade she told him that it felt like a dream”.
We are told that Cookson had known a farmer called Justino Peck a few years who for the first time was able to give his eleven year old son pocket money because of Fairtrade. Cookson was present when the first Dairy Milk bars came off the line in Birmingham, and described the moment as “Highly emotional”.
Cadbury explains that this is the first step in a journey with Fairtrade, and the fact that it is making this move during difficult financial circumstances reaffirms its commitment to Fairtrade.
There are additional costs, which have affected margins on Dairy Milk, but Cadbury explains that it is taking a company wide view on the matter and sees the move as an investment.
