112th NANTWICH INTERNATIONAL CHEESE SHOW

July 21st, 2009

Cathedral City is once again the proud sponsor of the 112th Nantwich International Cheese Show, taking place at Dorfold Hall Park in Nantwich, Cheshire, with the trade day, including award ceremony, on Tuesday 28th July and the public day on Wednesday 29th July 2009.

The nation’s favourite Cheddar brand has been a key sponsor of the show for more than twenty years, helping Nantwich to grow year after year, resulting in it being the largest cheese show in the world. To celebrate the long-standing support, Cathedral City is offering visitors a once in a lifetime cheese tasting of a unique 5-year old Cheddar, Cathedral City Vintage 60, as well as celebrity chef Lesley Waters who will be present on the public day, 29th July, sharing hints and tips on cooking with cheese.

Laura Downey, Marketing Controller at Dairy Crest, comments: “We can’t wait for visitors to the show to taste our exclusive 5-year old Cheddar, called Cathedral City Vintage 60. This limited edition Cheddar further proves Cathedral City’s cheese-making expertise and our dedication to making the best quality cheese for our consumers.”

Exclusive to the 2009 show, Cathedral City will be sampling the oldest Cheddar produced in Britain on its stand – Cathedral City Vintage 60. The Cheddar is created using the expertise and high quality craftsmanship of the Cathedral City specialist cheese grader, Mark Pitts-Tucker, and matured for 60 months. Unavailable to buy anywhere in the UK, 5-year old Cathedral City Cheddar is full bodied, rich and creamy, with the well-rounded flavour that Cathedral City is famous for, that will appeal to cheese lovers who enjoy a more flavoursome Cheddar. Mark Pitts-Tucker has seen this unique cheese through every stage of its recipe development and maturation, which has taken years to perfect.

The Cathedral City team will also be joined by Lesley Waters, the well-known chef and food writer from This Morning and Ready Steady Cook, who will select the winner of the Cheese Lovers’ Trophy and will share her passion and expertise for cooking with cheese on the stand. There will also be prizes to be won, including a hamper full of the Cathedral City range, including Cathedral City Extra Mature, Mature, Mature Lighter, Mild and Vintage 20, as well as the exclusive Vintage 60.

Laura Downey continues: “We are delighted to continue our support of the Nantwich International Cheese Show and we’re looking forward to another successful show in 2009.”
