VANILLA FARMERS GET A FAIRTRADE DEAL FROM GERMAN FLAVOUR HOUSE SYMRISE

June 25th, 2009

Bakeryandsnacks.com reports that German flavour house Symrise has put its own people on the ground in Madagascar to make sure that the farmers get a fair deal.

Symrise has been producing vanilla flavours since 1874.

International organising body, Flo-Cert, has helped Symrise to establish itself and organise the Madagascan vanilla farmers.

Madagascar is the main producer of vanilla and Symrise feels that by having a local presence, the quality of the crops can be increased, and the yield of the active ingredient Vanillin can be increased to the benefit of all.

Flo-Cert and Symrise will also make sure that the prices farmers received are stabilised.
