MORRISONS PROMOTES SEASONAL FOOD

June 24th, 2009

Morrisons says :Bursting with the freshness of summer, enjoy British pod peas, raspberries and runner beans.

Pod Peas

Pod peas taste so wonderfully sweet, it’s no surprise they are popular. Pea supplier KS Coles has been growing peas for over 40 years and is one of Morrisons most trusted suppliers. Ken Coles takes personal control of the crop from drilling the seed right through to hand harvesting.

Peas can be boiled in a matter of minutes and make the perfect accompaniment to light fish and meat dishes. These little gems of goodness are high in protein and fibre and contain vitamins, especially vitamin C.

Raspberries

At peak season all Morrisons raspberries are British. Some are grown in Scotland by Stewarts of Tayside, a family run soft-fruit grower. The berries are hand picked before going directly to store. Raspberries contain fibre, folic acid and vitamin C. The berries are an excellent fruit for making jam, gorgeous in desserts or simply served on their own with a dollop of cream.

Runner Beans

The Harper family farm, which supplies Morrisons with runner beans, sits on the banks of the river Severn where the soil is very fertile. Morrisons runner beans are picked, packed and labelled at source and on shelves in store the very next day. Beans will keep in the fridge for up to five days although they are best eaten as soon as possible. They are a good source of vitamin C, folic acid and fibre.
