CORNISH SEA SALT MAKES A COMEBACK

June 4th, 2009

The Cornish Sea Salt company is the brainchild of Tony Fraser who came up with the idea of harvesting salt in the area when he discovered there had once been an Iron Age salt works near Porthkerris.  While investigating the area he even came across a piece of one of the pots that was used to make it and that was the moment he decided to re-start production.

We are told that Cornish Sea Salt is only the second British Sea Salt to launch in 125 years.  It is hand-harvested by the sea, just eight metres from the clearest Grade A turquoise waters off Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula and is part of a new generation of British sea salt that cares as much about the way iut is made and the environment it is made in, as it does about he way it tastes.

TV chef and food campaigner Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall said “Cornish Sea Salt has a wonderful unique texture, crumbles easily between the fingers … and it tastes great too.  It is the preferred British sea salt in The River Cottage Kitchen”.

Cornish food fanatic Rick Stein said “I’m very pleased to be selling Cornish Sea Salt in my deli.  It is pure and tastes very salty – straight from the ocean”.

Founder Tony Fraser goes on to say “Traditional table salt is a processed, bleached product with incorporated additives and anti-caking agents to prevent it re-absorbing moisture such as Sodium Ferrocyanide.  The production process leaves the salt with little or none of its original trace minerals or goodness.  Cornish Sea Salt, by comparison, is a totally natural product and retains all its original mineral qualities.  Also the flavour is much more intense meaning less needs to be added to food”.
