TATE & LYLE LAUNCHES POTENT GREEN TEA EXTRACT

May 11th, 2009

Tate & Lyle has launched a new green tea extract named Teawell 95. The product has a 95% concentration of a compound called EGCG which is a very pure catechin and is the most potent of the four catechins found in green tea.

Studies have demonstrated that this compound can help with weight management, maintain healthy blood glucose control and cardiovascular health. It is also a strong antioxidant.

Tate & Lyle launched Teawell 95 at the European Vitafoods Fair which focuses on nutraceuticals. It also showcased a number of prototypes including a juice drink, an iced tea, an isotonic drink, a white yogurt and a fruit yogurt which, the company said, will build on the synergy between Teawell 95 and key Tate & Lyle Ingredients Splenda Sucralose, Polydextrose and Fructose.

Commenting on the announcement, James Blunt, Vice-President Sales & Marketing, EMEA for Tate & Lyle said, “In recent years we have seen a huge surge of interest in functional food and drinks, as consumers become increasingly aware of the importance of eating and drinking well. We have also observed that green tea is becoming more and more popular in the west. This agreement will help us to respond to both of these trends, allowing us to develop a range of healthy products that taste great.”
