TRUE TASTE OF WALES LAUNCHES NEW PRODUCTS
This spring a selection of artisan food and drink producers – all Wales the True Taste Award winners – will be launching new treats to feast upon. From gourmet meat pies to an exciting new chocolate recipe based on the traditional Welsh Bara Brith cake, all products are made from the best quality ingredients and whether you’re looking for sweet or savoury, there’s something here to suit everyone’s tastes.
NEW Happy Daze, lower alcohol cider from Gwynt Y Ddraig
Happy Daze is the new lower alcohol draught cider from Gwynt Y Ddraig. Produced from freshly picked and pressed apples, it is blended into a light medium tasting cider.
In the autumn of 2001 Gwynt Y Ddraig made its first few hundred gallons of cider on the home farm in Llantwit Fardre. Since then it has increased production every year and broadened its selection of draught and bottled ciders. Most of its cider apples are sourced from Welsh orchards and the extra fruit comes from Somerset and Hereford.

The chocolate incorporates tea-infused cream as a base for the ganache centre which is complemented by gentle spices and fruit pieces. According to manager Emily Jones, “this innovative way of using a Welsh influence has proved very successful during tasting sessions.” If you fancy trying the new chocolate, it is available online or at the farm from 30th March onwards, where visitors can also join a factory tour to see how these chocolates are made and even participate in the chocolate-making process.
