MINTEL SAYS CHINESE IS NUMBER ONE ETHNIC MEAL CHOICE.
In a recent Mintel Survey on ethnic food, more respondents picked Chinese as their first choice than any other, and Indian came second. Between them they accounted for 70% of the votes. Mexican food was also popular and came in at 20%.
Mintel also reported that ready meal sales are declining as more families shun the microwave and turn to creating their own meals at home using fresh meat, vegetables and perhaps a ready made sauce.
The telegraph.co.uk quoted Emannuelle Bouvier, Mintel analyst, as saying “The current economic climate seems to be impacting on Brits seeking to recreate the restaurant experience at home.
“The initial establishment of popular favourites Chinese and Indian cuisine have led to a broadening of the market and increased popularity of different types of ethnic food.
“Stir-fries tend to be seen as healthy meal solutions that are also convenient while cooking aids, such as pastes and spices, give consumers the freedom to tailor their meals to their taste, which they cannot do with ready meals.
