AUTHENTIC MARGUERITAS FOR NATIONAL DISTRIBUTION

April 1st, 2009

Diageo is rolling out Jose Cuervo Authentic Margaritas nationally, following trials within selected ASDA and Tesco stores. Sales of the product, in test, have more than doubled over the last 12 months. Launched in 2007, the pre-mixed ready to drink product was intended to give consumers a more convenient way to serve this highly popular cocktail.

The brand is the world’s number one tequila and is popular with younger men, while the Margarita has been blended to appeal to women.

The drink is blended from Jose Cuervo Especial Tequila, triple sec and lime and is said to make a bar-quality lime Margarita.

It is positioned as a drink for barbecues, dinner parties, or any sort of party.

Talking Retail, the Web News Source says the packs of six will be available from April 2009 and there will be a £75,000 through the line investment. Also a £3 off each case promo will be available from selected retailers.

Packed in a 70cl bottle, it can be served over ice, or blended with the ice to form a frozen drink, ideal for hot summers.

The peak purchase is early evening and on Saturdays, which means it is probably an impulse item.
