AMERICANS ARE MOVING TOWARDS LESS SUGARY DRINKS
If the United States is still an indicator of trends which are going to reach the UK, researchers are calling for a new category of drinks which contain lower levels of sugar to wean the US consumer away from sugary sweet drinks.
According to a report in BeverageDaily.com the Harvard School Of Public Health is asking USA manufacturers to put less sugar in adult drinks.
Harvard wants a new class of adult drink to be created with less than 1g of sugar per ounce of drink, and at the same time avoiding intense sweeteners.
More evidence is pointing to sugary drinks as a culprit in the American type 2 diabetes epidemic.
In response the American Beverage Association has verified that consumers palates are now changing towards lower calorie beverages.
The American journal of clinical nutrition said it found that women who drank more than two servings of high sugar beverages a day were at a 40% higher risk of heart disease than those who drank less.
