STYLISH PIES
New at IFE09 is a range of artisan pies from Delisanté. This company seems to have combined a stylish retail presentation with a genuine chef touch and they are spot-on for the UK pie-trend because if the IFE09 show is anything to go by, pies are definitely in.
The Delisanté range of pies seems to tick several boxes. Most of the ingredients are sourced locally; the pies are given a light touch because they are hand-finished and the fillings are low fat and low sodium.
Perhaps best of all, they have a range of pie slices which are spot on for the food-to-go market and because they are pie slices, rather than mini pies, they don’t have the excess pastry and shortage of filling which the mini’s suffer from. The slices are individually wrapped in a protective atmosphere and packed in rather smart boxes, they are available at the moment in Waitrose, next to the sandwiches and I suggest you try them as an example of a quality product with a mainstream listing.
Apart from the dated “Gala Pie” drying out on the deli, I don’t recall seeing pie slices presented like this before.
Founder Charles Coleman says “We are truly passionate about food and we never compromise on taste. Delisante stands for restaurant quality and our brigade of chefs prepare everything in small batches using methods which have stood the test of time”.
