BREAKFAST ON THE MOVE
Here’s something from the IFE09 show which is totally new to me. A Porridge Oat Bar from a company called Stoats. The bars definitely taste of porridge and are totally delicious!
Stoats begin in Edinburgh selling porridge from their trailer and they were selected as the best European food stall by the Guardian. The bars come in different flavours, Goji Berry and Flax Seed, White Chocolate & Hazelnut, Raspberry & Honey, Blueberry & Honey, Macadamia and Cranberry, Fig & Dates, Apricot & Sultana and Christmas Mincemeat.
They focus on food festivals and farmers markets rather than mainstream retail and their latest product is a small tub of porridge where you just add water or milk and microwave.
To my mind this is a simple, yet new presentation, of a very traditional product. And if the trend towards nostalgia is a fact, then this is a good example of nostalgia food in new clothes.
