BORIS SANCTIONS SAUSAGE DIET

March 5th, 2009

A Yorkshire sausage maker has come to the rescue of sausage-loving, Mayor Of London, Boris Johnson.  Award-winning Debbie & Andrew’s has set about feeding Bojo’s passion for his favourite bangers by concocting a series of healthy recipes guaranteed to help him on his way to dropping a few pounds and not the baton in the run up to 2012.

Debbie and Andrew Keeble, the husband wife farmers who set up their sausage company 10 years ago, decided to get the London Mayor’s New Year meat-eating habits off to a healthy start after reading about the self-confessed food fanatic’s questionable eating habits – leftover meatballs and birthday cake for breakfast, and copious quantities of his favourite bangers & mash washed down with red wine.

As an avid sausage fan, Boris might have suspected that sausages would be struck off the menu whilst trying to go for weight-loss gold. But thanks to
Debbie Keeble’s hard graft in the family kitchen, she has devised the series of delicious and healthier sausage-based recipes which Boris can enjoy guilt-free as part of his new diet routine.

By following the recipes, meat-lover Boris will also be doing his bit to help the struggling British pig farming industry, an issue highlighted in Jamie Oliver’s recent ‘Jamie Saves Our Bacon’ programme looking at why British farmers are going out of business and what can be done to support them.

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, said: “I am flattered that these healthier sausage recipes have been inspired by my pronounced intention to lose a stone this year. Anything that can help me to achieve this goal whilst still tucking into my favourite grub is a real bonus. I hope that this leaner, meaner banger helps a small business to thrive in tough economic times as well.’

As a British farming family and pig farmers for 20 years before they started making sausages, Debbie & Andrew remain steadfast in their support for the industry. They are passionate about meat quality and use only high-welfare, fully traceable British pork in their sausages. They are also pioneers of the UK’s first fair price scheme for British pig farmers. Debbie, a constant campaigner, remains a key figure within the British pig industry, having recently won the prestigious 2008 Women in Farming Award.
