FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT COMING UP
February is almost upon us, the month that brings us not only Valentine’s Day but Fairtrade Fortnight (23 Feb–8 March). To this end The Ethical superstore has made gift buying easy. It is suggested that Fairtrade Fortnight is an antidote to the wave of romance flooding our shores, and to celebrate the web store has stocked up on all sorts of ethical goodies to give you a romance-free, ethically-sound glow inside.
This year is the 26th anniversary of Fairtrade goods being sold in Europe and an important one for the Fairtrade Foundation who are one year into an ambitious five year strategy to enable twice as many producers to benefit from selling Fairtrade goods in the UK by 2012*.
The store suggests “Make merry…
If February plans are more house party than hors de’eurves, consumers could try Mongozo Fairtrade banana or coconut flavoured beer at just £2.14 a bottle?
Or, perhaps some Ubuntu Cola – the UK’s first cola with the Fairtrade stamp of approval. It’s a mere snip at only 79p a can, or £12.72 for a case of 24, and your pennies will help hundreds of Southern Malawis local farmers make a living.
It is also suggested that for parties with designated drivers, shoppers can try Fairtrade tea. A box of 80 Equal Exchange Organic Fair trade Tea will cost £2.09. For the coffee lovers, order in some of Herbert’s Iced Coffee Lattes from just £1.39. This flavoursome iced coffee “tastes great” and means the farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa can develop new sustainable projects like clean water facilities.
And for all you cupids out there …
We’re sorry, we tried but there’s no getting away from chocolate and hearts so we’ve embraced them! Show someone you care with the classic Divine Chocolate Hearts, available in smooth Milk and devilishly Dark chocolate varieties. These beautifully wrapped chocs are made from cocoa grown by Kuapa Kokoo in Ghana, and at £2.99 a bag, they’ll please your partner and your pocket.
Or really wow them with Divine Hand Finished Champagne Truffles for only £4.89. These delicate treats, made using Fair Trade cocoa, cocoa butter and sugar, are available in milk chocolate and champagne, or white chocolate and light strawberry ganache. They’re heavenly treats with a heart.
And, heck, why not go the whole hog and limber up your sweet tooth in time for Easter? We love the Dubble Speckled Eggs (£1.49 a bag) and for all-out ethically-sound luxury, are rather partial to the Divine Dark Chocolate Egg for £4.99. Even better, each Divine egg comes with Divine Chocolate covered Brazil Nuts tucked inside.”
The store is stocking over 5000 ethical products and with the widest available range of quality Fairtrade products available on the web.
