EUROPEAN HEART HEALTH MARKET IS BEATING STRONGLY

February 16th, 2009

According to Nutraingredients.com the European heart health ingredients market will show good growth even though there is little certainty about regulatory rules.

Market researchers Frost & Sullivan estimate the market is growing by 20%.

The awareness of heart health is fueled by both commerce and government plus the help of some health claims in some countries.

“The primary challenge facing the heart health ingredients market continues to be the stringent regulatory scenario in Europe as compared to the US,” the report states.

Ageing populations causes a rise in heart disease and therefore there is “immense potential for growth”, the report, which looks back to 2004 and forward to 2014, states.

The population which is over-60 is expected to increase from 20% to 25% in Europe as a whole by 2020.

Frost Continues “Manufacturers can make merry in such a growth story as long as they retain their competitive edge by utilising astute combination of research, product development and marketing strategies.”

Frost emphasises that in Europe four main ingredients dominate the cholesterol-reduction scene: phytosterols; omega-3s; beta-glucan and soy protein while other options included fibre, antioxidants, green tea, CoEnzymeQ10, folic acid, B12 and selenium, but former were more popular because they had good science behind them.
