HAZELDENE LAUNCHES WHOLESALE SALAD BRAND

January 22nd, 2009

Hazeldene, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of prepared salads, is launching a branded range of salad products which will be available through the wholesale network to convenience and independent retail channels across the UK.
Hazeldene, already has a strong portfolio across foodservice, convenience retail and manufacturing sectors. Including producing own-label bagged salads for Somerfield, Iceland and Netto; salad ingredients for Subway and Greggs as well as supplying a number of key wholesalers. However, this is the first time the company has produced a Hazeldene branded product direct to consumers.

The range of six new products: Mixed Leaf Salad, Crisp Leaf, Sweet and Crunchy, Fresh and Crunchy Salad, Mini Crunchy Salad, and Watercress, Spinach and Rocket, will be launched this month with prices ranging from £0.69 – £1.89. A Chef’s Salad bag, aimed at caterers, will also be available.

Simon Ball, MD of Hazeldene, commented: “People’s lifestyles mean that decisions for evening meals are often made on the day, and so it is important that independent retailers offer choice and quality of products in the same manner as supermarkets. Our new range of branded salads will provide shoppers with a product that they can trust, of supermarket quality and at a reasonable price.

Hazeldene sources fresh produce from a carefully cultivated crop of suppliers across the UK, Europe, North America and Africa from their hi-tech base in Wigan as well as a base in Murcia, Spain allowing fresh produce to be sourced over the winter months. 72% of the leaf is sourced within 20-miles of Wigan during the summer, where the plant has the capability to wash, pack and dice a broad range of salad and vegetable products.

Hazeldene have a variety of customers across the convenience retail, foodservice, wholesale  and food manufacturing sector including own-label bagged salads to Somerfield, Iceland and Netto; foodservice ingredients to Greggs, Subway and Solway Foods. As well as supplying Mccormick, PJ Produce, and Total Produce.

Part of the William Jackson Food Group, Hazeldene has undergone a brand review with the introduction of a new logo and strapline: ‘Naturally Fresh’.
