Cheesy twist for Monopoly game
A graphic designer from Wigan has come up with an unusual twist for a traditional board game, the British Monopoly Cheese Board.
Bringing together two of Britain’s popular treasures, the customary after-dinner snack has been transformed into entertainment for all the family.
The famous street names of the London-based board game have been replaced with the equally famous British cheeses.
Kevin Whitter first created the game as a present for his family to play, but has since received the official seal of approval from the British Cheese Board and the Stilton Cheese Makers’ Association (SCMA) after friends sent in pictures of the game.
A total of 22 out of a possible 700 British cheeses were chosen to represent the industry, including classics such as Cheddar and Cheshire. Cottage cheese starts the route at Old Kent Road and the Stilton has taken pride of place at the prestigious Mayfair spot.
Nigel White, secretary of the SCMA, said: “The board summarises Britain’s love affair with quality cheese and should be something that we’re extremely proud of.
“With so many continental cheeses imported into Britain, the Monopoly Cheese Board acts as an excellent reminder of all the fantastic cheeses produced by the British Isles.”
