AVERYS TO LAUNCH PIONEER RANGE OF WINES

January 21st, 2009

Averys is delighted to unveil a new range of wines celebrating a tradition of pioneering that goes back to 1793. The wines of Averys Pioneer Range are selected by John Avery MW from winemaking countries he began working with back in the 1960s and 70s.

He has been identified by Stephen Spurrier in Decanter as being one of the most significant individuals in bringing New World wines to the attention of UK wine enthusiasts.

According to John Avery MW; “Every now and then I discover small parcels of wine that stand out from the crowd and remind me why I found these wines so thrilling in the early days.”
The first wine in Averys Pioneer Range is a Yarra Valley Shiraz from 2005. The average temperatures of the Yarra Valley lie between those of Bordeaux and Burgundy resulting in wines of subtlety and elegance. Within the Yarra Valley lie some of Australia’s best-known wineries, including the makers of this luscious Shiraz, situated in the district of Yarra Glen.

Tasting notes for Averys Pioneer Range Yarra Valley Shiraz 2005:
Dark colour with enticing aromas of cherry, red fruits and spice. On the palate, it offers an array of flavours including bramble fruit, liquorice, cloves and pepper with soft, silky tannins on the finish. Rich, smooth and particularly graceful, it is reminiscent of the wines of northern Rhône. This is a wine that epitomises the elegance and complexity of Yarra Valley winemaking.

Averys Pioneer Range Yarra Valley Shiraz is available at an introductory price of £6.67 per bottle (thereafter it will be priced at £8.99)

Averys Pioneer Range will include wines from, among others, Tasmania, California, South Africa and New Zealand.
