Demand for natural sweetener grows

December 31st, 2008

A 100% natural sweetener has proved so popular, manufacturers have demanded it come in larger quantities so they can use it as an ingredient in their products.

To accommodate this, Sweet Freedom is now supplying its natural syrup sweetener to outlets in 5 and 20 litre quantities.

Sweet Freedom is already for sale nationwide in health food stores and delis. However, the Made 100% fruit sweetener, made from apples, grapes and carob with no colour, additives or preservatives, was so successful at food shows this year that demand for the product as an ingredient sky-rocketed.

The company says that Sweet Freedom has 25% less calories than sugar, while consumers need only use a quarter as much. It also has a low glycaemic load providing a steady release of energy and it is an ideal choice for diabetics.

Deborah Pyner, Sweet Freedom co-founder: said: "We have been approached by small and large companies wanting to trial in their products as an alternative to sugar, agave syrup, honey and golden syrup as well as xylitol and trials are already under way in jams, ice cream, granola, flapjacks, cakes and nutrition bars."
