Covent Garden launches eating plan
New Covent Garden Food Co. is launching a new vegetable soup as part of its healthy eating plan.
The Vegetable Collection has just 129 calories per 300g serving and is a health-conscious alternative to higher calorie products.
The soup is part of the company’s Shape Up With Soup eating plan, which is aimed at helping people who have eaten one too many mince pies to lose a few pounds.
The plan, which will be backed by former Bad Girls actress Debra Stephenson, encourages consumers to swap their usual lunch or dinner for soup and a bread roll for up to two weeks.
Shoppers can choose from 12 low-fat soups in the New Covent Garden range or the January Soup of the Month, The Vegetable Collection.
In a profit-boosting move for retailers, group marketing director Nigel Parrott said the eating plan will be particularly popular with women wanting to incorporate the soup into a weight loss programme.
A pre-Christmas trial by Purely Nutrition found that 83% of women following the plan lost an average of 4.6lbs over a two-week period.
