Santa gets a Coca-Cola facelift
The Coca-Cola Santa is having his beard trimmed and tummy tucked – not to mention a facelift – for this year`s Christmas advertising campaign.
The wonderfully evocative yesteryear ads, steeped in port, firesides and seasonal cheer, were launched by US agency Haddon Sundblom 75 years ago.
They have now been given a modern brush-up by Swedish artist Mikael Eriksson, and will run in two phases – `anticiptation` and `excitement`.
They show Santa in contemporary settings, such as getting the Coca-Cola truck ready for Christmas. The first will break this week in conjunction with `The Holidays are Coming` TV campaign.
Meanwhile, the `Greatest Gift` campaign is also being brought back to the future, which shows a girl receiving a Christmas bottle of Coke from Santa throughout her life. It will break on December 1.
Virtual Christmas "cards" will be highlights of a digital campaign that also feature a Google Earth widget that can decorate your houses with sparkling virtual Christmas lights…
