Best-food guide gets star billing

November 27th, 2008

"The best food in the world" is the billing for the Guild of Fine Food guide to the 596 gold-star winners of this year’s Great Taste Awards.

The 80-page guide features fully illustrated and truly appetising stories about the producers and how they make their food the best of the best.

The awards, reckoned to be the Oscars of the food industry, this year included 4,753 products, most from smaller producers that source local ingredients to manufacture small amounts, mostly by hand.

A total of 1,124 were awarded gold this year. Most were given a one-star grading, while 220 were awarded two stars and just 72 received the coveted three gold stars.

The award is hailed as the best independent standard for Britain’s fine food sector, with more customer recognition of the gold and black logo as the benchmark for fine food.

Copies are available free from good delis, farm shops, Aga stores and local food festivals, or direct from the Guild of Fine Food.
