Twinings launches new Deli cuppa

October 23rd, 2008

To celebrate tea’s rich heritage Twinings is launching a range of eight loose leaf teas rooted in rituals from around the world.

The new Twinings Tea Deli range is described as an exotic mix of flavours offering a colourful journey through 4,500 years of tea drinking history.

The range is made up of rich strong blacks from Africa and Sri Lanka; warm smooth ‘malty’ teas from Assam; first flush teas from Darjeeling; sweet, velvety greens from China; and white teas with their silvery, limpid appearance and delicate fragrance.

The new Deli range, available exclusively at Waitrose nationwide, comprises eight blends, divided into three categories: ‘Boutique’, ‘Rare’ and ‘Limited Picking Season’ – in the same way that wines are categorised and priced based on their appellation, rarity and age.

Wine expert Oz Clarke thinks we should make our tea drinking more exciting: "There’s a whole world of blends and rituals out there to discover, it tastes fantastic," he said.

The new range follows a survey into the popularity of tea that revealed 165 million cups of tea are drunk a day.
