Premium ready meals introduced

August 27th, 2008

A frozen ready meal range, launched by Glendale Foods, is being presented as a premium option.

Unlike other similar products, the meals are frozen in seconds using nitrogen tunnels, Talking Retail reports.

Glendale Foods claims this preserves goodness and ensures an added degree of freshness.

The range, dubbed Glendale Classics, includes chicken tikka, doner kebab and a Scotch beef cheeseburger.

Managing director Paul Burkitt said: “Glendale Foods [is] ploughing investment into product development, to attract shoppers to the freezer aisle, and we believe that Glendale Classics is the equal to anything similar in the chiller cabinet.”

The company adds that a recommended retail price of £1.59 allows it to invest in quality ingredients, moving the range into the premium bracket.

Packaging company Faerch Plast recently designed “innovative” new products aimed at encouraging children to eat healthy ready meals, as the supplier observed that the UK is leading the world in developing such options.
