New tacos aim to drive Mexican food sector

August 27th, 2008

Discovery has launched a new taco product, aimed at attracting consumers to the Mexican food category.

Talking Retail reports that the Discovery Taco Trays are designed to minimise the hassle and mess normally associated with meals such as tapas.

A shape similar to a boat allows the taco to be easily filled with various toppings as well as providing a convenient means to eat them.

Head of marketing at Discovery James Bennett was quoted as saying: “At the moment, Mexican cuisine is perceived as complicated, but with innovative new products like the Taco Trays, we’re confident they will demonstrate the ease and quality of Mexican food.”

The launch will be accompanied by a kit, which will include not only the tacos themselves but also a spice mix and some salsa.

United Biscuits recently launched a range of tortilla Hula Hoops, claiming Mexican foods are “enjoying a renaissance”.
