New sauce to match environmentally-friendly packaging

August 2nd, 2008

Italian brand Sacla has responded to the environmental concerns of its customers by revamping its packaging.

Talking Retail reports the move comes as a new tomato and chilli paste is added to the range as an alternative to tomato puree.

Previously jars were labelled with a cardboard wrap but that will be replaced by a terra copper equivalent.

Managing director for Sacla UK Clare Bampied was quoted as saying: “Our consumers have told us that strong product communication on pack and environmentally-friendly packaging are both important factors. We’re delighted that our new look terra copper packaging will provide both.”

The new paste and packaging will be supported by a TV sponsorship campaign featuring chefs such as Jamie Oliver and Nigella Lawson.

Family-owned Sacla was established in 1923 and claims to have pioneered the use of twist lids on jars, as well as being the first company to sell packed pitted olives.
