New pizza products target pregnant women

August 17th, 2008

Baked beans and sultanas, steak and seeds, and pistachio ice cream are among the innovative new range of pizza toppings unveiled by a London eatery this week to satisfy pregnancy cravings.

Eco Restaurant in Chiswick has launched the unusual menu following recommendations from clients, reports CatererSearch.

The combinations were devised with the help of a nutritionist and owner Charmaine Wasif is confident they will be a popular and healthy alternative to more standard pizza options.

She told the website: “My view is that the customer is always right and although I haven’t had kids myself I knew that pregnant women sometimes like something out of the ordinary to eat.”

Other new toppings include grilled aubergine and lentil, Fiorentina, and fresh salmon and sour cream.

A number of fast food outlets including Pizza Express recently came under fire from the National Consumer Council (NCC) for not providing enough nutritional information about their menus.
