New formula for kids’ juice drinks

August 22nd, 2008

Metro Drinks has developed a new formula for its Juice Patrol range, allowing it to be sold in schools.

The drinks now comply with School Food Trust guidelines and contain more than enough fruit to constitute one of the recommended five daily portions of fruit and vegetables, Talking Retail reports.

“While the debate about what constitutes a healthy drink for children continues, the School Food Trust guidelines are designed to give both schools and parents confidence in soft drinks,” said Paul Bendit, Metro Drinks’ managing director.

He added that since the products contain no sugar or artificial additives, they are healthy and natural.

They come in orange and mango, apple and pear, and strawberry and banana flavours, with an average 109 calories per bottle.

Recently Caterersearch reported that 88 per cent of school caterers believe new meal standards will be impossible to meet when they come into force in primary schools in September.
