‘Green’ bottles to be used by Freeminer

July 2nd, 2008

Freeminer, the brewery, is to introduce a new bottle that aims to be more environmentally-friendly than its predecessor.

A lightweight glass bottle has been designed to help save energy, Talking Retail reports.

The company produces beverages for the Co-operative and Morrisons, with the new bottle shapes arriving in June for the Co-operative’s Fairtrade Honey Ale, Organic Fairtrade Premium Ale and Gold Miner.

Managing director of Freeminer Peter Thomas told the news source that the new packaging will be cost efficient and “easier to handle for both trade and consumer”.

“The quality of the beer within the bottle is not compromised and we are retaining our existing amber colour and bottle shape,” he said.

Category marketing manager for beers, wines and spirits at the Co-op Vicky Wood stated that the company is working towards the creation of more lightweight packaging for its own-label goods.

Recently, merchants Berry Bros and Rudd predicted in its Future of Wine report that cartons and plastic bottles could soon replace glass wine bottles.
