Soft drinks market is reflecting ‘healthy choices’
The soft drinks category is likely to follow the consumer trend for making healthy choices when it comes to food and drink, one expert has predicted.
According to Liz Bastone, media manager at the British Soft Drinks Association, the sector is currently focusing on health and wellbeing.
The market “shows that consumers are increasingly taking into account their diet and health when making both food and drink choices and I think the soft drink market reflected that in 2007 and looks set to continue to reflect that in 2008″, she said.
Sports drinks, smoothies and energy drinks are coming through alongside “traditional carbonate” beverages,” Ms Bastone remarked.
She added that food companies in the sector have responded “effectively” to customer desires for healthy drink options.
Figures from Britvic’s 2008 Soft Drinks Report found that the health and wellbeing market is the most powerful driver of the sector.
