June 9th, 2008

Coffee giant Kenco is to increase the number of products it provides that are Rainforest Alliance certified.

Parent company Kraft Foods has announced that by the end of the year, three-quarters of the freeze-dried Kenco coffee range will be rainforest Alliance certified, talking Retail reports.

Vice president and managing director of Kraft Foods for the UK and Ireland Nick Bunker noted that the change reflects consumer demand.

“Consumers are increasingly demanding high-quality, sustainably-sourced products that make a tangible, positive difference to the quality of life for farmers, farm workers, and their families and communities,” he said.

Mr Bunker added that the taste of the products will not be compromised.

By 2010, the Kenco range is aiming to be 100 per cent sourced from Rainforest Alliance certified farms.

Tea maker Twinings recently announced that it has used only natural ingredients to reblend its health tea category.
