Hovis launches ‘Victorian’ bread
Bread maker Hovis is to launch a new product in the autumn, the Little Brown Loaf.
The product was actually first sold by the company in 1886, Talking Retail reports.
To be supported by an advertising campaign when it arrives on shelves in September, the Little Brown Loaf is unsliced, which according to marketing director at Hovis Jon Goldstone will appeal to more conventional shoppers.
“The Hovis Little Brown loaf will not only appeal to traditional consumers looking for an unsliced loaf from a bakery with the long standing heritage of Hovis, but also younger consumers who want a naturally healthy, tasty bread,” he said.
He added that the paper packaging of the product is “distinctive”, helping to make the bread stand out on a store’s shelf.
Yesterday, meatinfo.co.uk reported that the British Sandwich Association presented Morrisons with the Sandwich Multiple Retailer of the Year Award 2008.
