Range of Australian pies launches in UK
Big Shearer, Footy and Big Country are among eight new names for Australian-themed pies about to be launched onto UK shelves.
The Great Australian Pie Company (GAPC) has created the new pastries in conjunction with Australian chef Ben O’Donoghue, who is so committed to the project he has invested in the company, it says.
GAPC’s vision is to create innovative recipes “true to the Australian spirit of simple and full flavours yet made with quality ingredients” and they do not contain artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.
While the recipe and theme is definitely thousands of miles from the UK, GAPC will be sourcing the ingredients from the UK.
The pies have already found their way to sports venues and music festivals and will be more widely available in chilled cabinets throughout the country.
Seven mean and poultry pies will be accompanied by a Veggie – made from roasted butternut squash, tomato sauce, garlic, spinach and goats cheese.
In other pie news, Melton Mowbray pork pies could be a protected brand name like Parma Ham and Champagne if its EU registration of the name goes unchallenged.
