Premium cider market targeted by Gaymer

May 3rd, 2008

A new range of products from The Gaymer Cider Company will focus on the premium end of the market.

Gaymer’s Somerset Cider and Gaymer’s Devon Cider are produced from apples grown in the respective south-west counties, Talking Retail reports.

Due to hit the shelves around the UK in May, the firm hopes the products will tap into the cider market, which is growing at 23 per cent year-on-year.

Managing director at The Gaymer Cider Company John Mills, stated that the ciders will exploit the current trend for local produce.

“People are prepared to pay a premium for regionality and provenance,” he told the news source.

He added that the percentage of adults drinking cider is now at 35 per cent, up from less than 20 per cent four years ago.

Meanwhile, rival cider maker Thatchers announced a new bottle design that is lightweight and more environmentally friendly.
