Gluten-free pot pie launched

May 11th, 2008

A new Gluten-Free Beef Pot Pie has been launched that contains organic carrots and onions.

Twin Hens has pioneered the product using rice flour and rice starch for the gravy, Food Ingredients First reports.

Organic cornmeal has been used to create the topping.

Co-founder of the firm Linda Twinning remarked that many shoppers thought the product contained gluten.

“When we sampled our Twin Hens pot pies in stores, customers would often ask if it was gluten-free,” she said.

The new product does not sacrifice flavour, she added, and caters for the growing number of gluten-sensitive consumers.

Adding to the Twin Hens Chicken and Beef Pastry Pot Pie products, the new Beef Pot Pie is similar to a beef stew and uses beef from cows that have been grass fed.

Last week it was suggested by allergy magazine Foods Matter’s poll that free-from foods should be packaged in a way that makes them easily identifiable.
