Rare lamb variety sourced by Sainsbury’s
Sainsbury’s is to introduce Border Blackface lamb at its stores as it strengthens its locally-sourced meat proposition.
The meat will be branded with the premium Taste the Difference label, the retailer told Meatinfo.co.uk.
Sainsbury’s has a “strong regional sourcing strategy” fresh foods business unit director at the supermarket Karen Schenstrom remarked.
“We have worked hard to ensure that, during a very difficult time for sheep farmers in this country, we have been able to offer our customers a full range of fresh British lamb,” she said.
Sainsbury’s sells only 100 per cent British Taste the Difference lamb in its stores, Ms Schenstrom stated.
Manager with the Blackface Sheep Breeders’ Association Aileen McFadzean added that the meat has a “superb eating quality”.
The retailer recently announced that it is to only sell beef from Northern Ireland in its stores in the province.
