Goats’ meat receives top recognition

April 29th, 2008

A more unusual cut of meat was favoured at the recent north-west Fine Food Awards, with Glossop goat cutlets scooping one of the top prizes.

Judges recognised the quality of the meat cutlets from Derbyshire butcher John Mettrick of J W Mettrick & Son over other more traditional meats, Meatinfo.co.uk reports.

Mr Mettrick walked away with the prestigious best fresh meat in the north-west award after presenting the judging panel with his cuts of lamb.

According to Mr Mettrick, more people should eat the meat as it has added “health benefits”.

Furthermore, he added that there would be less wastage from goats’ milk if more people consumed the meat.

Describing the taste of the meat, he said: “We compare it to being like very lean lamb. It has a very fine texture and delicate flavour, not a strong flavour as some people think.”

Pig’s trotters were recently suggested by the Daily Telegraph as poised to make a comeback in the UK food market.
